Fourteen months ago, Ember Morgan, 9, and her 7-year-old sister Azalea Morgan hopped on their bicycles and pedaled with their mother to New York City, eager to experience the United Nations Climate Action Summit in Manhattan.

Strong advocates for the environment and clean energy, they pushed themselves to navigate on shoulder-less roadways, battling hunger and the unknown that come with sleeping bags rather than warm beds, and pleading with public transportation officials to let them on their bus or train, bikes in tow.

ABC’s “Good Morning America” heard about their 250-mile adventure, and now the popular coffee-chat entertainment program will interview the sisters Thursday morning, live from their home in Andover. Molly Morgan, the mother and brains behind last year’s operation, said this week that the broadcast should begin around 8 a.m.

The interview coincides with the unveiling of the 18-inch American Girl doll and accompanying book, both announced annually to honor young girls of all races during different periods of history.

This year’s tribute, to the environment and climate change, gives the sisters the opportunity to promote their vision while they serve as the perfect spokesgirls for the latest American Girl doll and what it represents.

“At first I was like whatever,” said Azalea, now 9. “But now I’m like, oh my God, I’m so glad to be on “Good Morning America.”
